Country/Pop superstar Taylor Swift released a brand new vudeo from her tripple Platinum album, Speak Now. The video is for the album’s third official single, “Mean.” It was first released to Country radio on March 14th, 2011. It is a response to people who constantly criticize whatever she does.
In an interview with E! News she said, “there’s constructive criticism, there’s professional criticism, and then there’s just being mean. And there’s a line that you cross when you just start to attack everything about a person”
Like the rest of the album, “Mean” was written solely by Taylor anfd produced by Nathan Chapman. Some of Taylor’s fans may have thought that the third single from Speak Now was, “The Story Of Us.” This is not actually true. “Mean” was first released to Country radio in March,, while “The Story Of Us’” release followed at Mainstream/CHR/Pop radio formats in April. Therefore, that is why the video for “Mean” premieres first. Taylor also performed “Mean” first on the 46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards on April 3rd. The video for “The Story Of Us” will soon follow in June.
The music video for “Mean” was directed by Declan Whitebloom. It was shot over two days in Los Angeles, with the Orpheum Theatre serving as its back drop. In a recent MTV News interview, Whitebloom said,;
“Mean” is very personal to Swift because lyrically it’s about a critic who was a little too harsh on her. We all have similar stories in our life that hit similar emotional cues, and to open it up and make it broader about lots of people and situations .. makes it much more accessible”
